What To Know And Look For When Buying Phalaenopsis Orchids
   phaleanopsis

When deciding what type of house plant you want to purchase, there are things to consider both before you make your purchase of a new Phalaenopsis Orchid. There are also important things to determine what kind of orchid you want once you have indeed chosen an orchid as the plant you are going to purchase.
The first thing to consider is where you are going to put your flowering plant.  What would go well with the décor of the room?  What kind of lighting is in the room?  What is the humidity of the area?  Are there small children or pets that could harm the plant or worse yet be harmed by it? Along the lines of the question above, are there children or pets that can have access to the pot and thus the soil or moss inside it?  If the answer to this is yes, then it is imperative that you pick a plant that is not highly susceptible to pests or bugs that would require pesticides to kill.
Once you have determined that you do indeed know which type of plant you are going to buy the next thing to do is to locate a proper nursery or greenhouse that you can purchase your plant or plants from. A little known secret about choosing a plant at a greenhouse is that the growers will try and put the best quality plants  at the center of the bed or house that is designated for that type of plant.  Go to the middle of a row and examine the different plants and choose the one that you like best.
All the while use extreme caution when examining the plants.  Make sure there are no pests in the soil or on the leaves as these will, in time, kill your new plant.  The next thing to check for is the quality of the stems. If the stems appear to be weak or bend easily, there is a good chance that the plant you are looking at has sat in water for too long.  You do not want to pick such a plant because it will considerably shorten its life span.
Once you have chosen a plant, talk to someone at the nursery or greenhouse and ask them what is the routine that they use on fertilizing the plants?  How often do they feed them?  How much food is given?  What type of food should you use?  Do not hesitate to ask them any questions that you can think of.  That is what they are there for.  It is their job to make your purchase of a new plant as easy and prosperous as possible. If you don’t ask you could be killing the plant your about to spend your hard earned money on.
Go on the conservative once you get your new plant home.  What does that mean I’ll tell you.  Do not over water your plant and do not underwater it.  Phalaenopsis Orchids should be watered somewhere between every 5-10 days.  A rule of thumb is to start somewhere in the middle of that range.  I always suggested that people start by watering their orchids once a week and judge the needs of the plant from the results.
In conclusion, the things to find out about and to consider as you are planning to purchase a new Phalaenopsis Orchid should start even before you go to the nursery or greenhouse.  Consider if the surroundings are appropriate for the orchid and make sure your house meets the needs of the said plant for light humidity and temperature.  Also be sure no children or pets are going to be able to harm the plant .  Once you have your check list done, go get yourself that orchid and  enjoy  it as it blooms in splendor for you.
